San Xavier del Bac Mission

San Xavier del Bac Mission is located in the Santa Cruz Valley just a few miles south of Tucson. a Jesuit Missionary, Father Eusebio Francisco Kino, laid the first foundations of the mission way back in 1700, over 300 years ago. The present church was constructed starting in 1783 and the Franciscan Friars have been there ever since.

The San Xavier del Bac Mission is open from 8:00 Am to 5:00 PM every day of the year. Please note: The Gift Shop is closed on Easter and Christmas. They do serve Mass at the Mission, but call ahead to confirm the schedule.

The Mission is currently undergoing an extensive restoration project but they still welcome visitors every day. If you like historical buildings, this is a very interesting place to visit for a few hours. Just sit back and absorb the history and the passion of this facinating historical treasure.

Driving Directions: Go South on I-19 from Tucson, You will see the Mission off to the right as you drive South. Exit the freeway at San Xavier Road and go West. Just follow the signs. Click here to view the map.
